Cold Recycling with Foamed Bitumen
Roads that are subjected to continuous and heavy traffic often show signs of damage that extend down to the road base. To eliminate this damage, the entire road needs structural rehabilitation.
Rolling ahead
Roads and highways is still going strong as the most happening infrastructure sector in India with many ongoing projects and many in the pipeline. India has the second largest road network across the world at 4.7 million km and is still growing.
Building Better Roads
The Ministry of Surface Transport has set an objective of building 40 km of roads a day from 2017-18 from the current level of 18 km a day. This has resulted in a paradigm shift in the use of road construction and rehabilitation methods and technologies.
The Road Ahead
In spite of the government's policy shift towards building four- and six-lane National Highways as concrete roads, plans to construct more rural roads and coastal roads will drive the demand for asphalt plants in the future. EQUIPMENT INDIA explores the road ahead for asphalt plants.

RAP Essential in Asphalt Plants
Asphalt mix production has had a long and rapid journey of redefinitions over the past decade, to allow the incorporation of RAP recycling. This procedure is now gaining acceptance in Indian markets.
Cold Milling Machines
Similar to developed nations, pavement milling or cold milling or cold planning of asphalt topped pavements is fast going to become a necessity in India, considering the volumes of crushed, screened, sized and shaped aggregates required for the upcoming roads and infrastructure projects, in the country.
Delivering Versatility
One of the first Wirtgen W 200 Hi cold milling machines is being used in Italy, where the large milling machine demonstrates its unique practical flexibility day after day, with a milling drum assembly that can be displaced 400 mm to either side.
Intelligent Compaction
Performance and productivity remain key issues for compactor manufacturers, with firms keen to enhance output from their latest units. EQUIPMENT INDIA takes a peek into the features major OEMs have built in, in terms of improving machine
Efficiency Matters
Globally, the past decade saw amazing developments in the hot- mix production technology. In India too, with the entry of global players, OEMs have geared up to offer advanced plants that can produce a variety of mixes - be it low energy / low-temperature asphalt mixes, warm / cold mixes, high percentage RAP mix, high recycling technology
Asphalt Recycling
Millions of tonnes of asphalt have being wasted in the country, when these could be properly treated and recycled for rehabilitation of road projects and new pavements.
Scope for pavement rehabilitation alternatives is huge
Our Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has no vision for the country. Cannot they spend even 0.01 per cent of the total outlay for training? This is simply unacceptable, says Prof. Prithvi Singh Kandhal, Associate Director Emeritus, National Center for Asphalt Technology, Auburn University, Alabama, USA.
Tech-Xage 2014
Living up to its commitment of innovation Ammann Apollo organised an in house exhibition - Tech-Xage 2014 at its facility in Ditasan near Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
ASTEC debuts double barrel HR at ConExpo
As Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) usage continues to increase as a way for producers to keep costs down while utilising stockpiles of reclaimed asphalt pavement, ASTEC has increased the ability of its signature double barrel drum dryer/mixer to handle RAP. The ASTEC double-barreled HR includes enhancements to the drum which allows use of up to 65 per cent RAP. A 1/8 model of the new high RAP double barrel drum was on display during the ConExpo 2014 trade show in Las Vegas.
